Relative humidity is a measure of the current humidity in relation to a given temperature. What does it mean when your dryer says Sensing? All Whirlpool Duet dryers have sensor strips in the drum.
As your load of laundry tumbles in the drum, it makes contact with the sensor strips so that the dryer can end the cycle when your laundry is dry.
If the dryer is not level, the sensing does not work properly, and your drying cycle will end early. Where is the moisture sensor in my dryer? Locate your dryer's moisture sensor. In older dryers, this sensor is typically found on the back wall of the dryer drum.
In newer dryers, typically, the moisture sensor is located on the front, often mounted to the lint filter housing. What would cause moisture in a dryer? Your dryer naturally produces moisture as hot air combines with wet clothes in the drum, but the moisture eventually filters out the exhaust system. However, an obstruction in the exhaust system can cause moisture to build up in the duct and drain back into the dryer.
Why does my dryer stops before clothes are dry? When sensor dry is selected the wet clothes in the dryer come in direct contact with the sensors and complete an electrical circuit. If these sensors are defective or become coated with fabric softener, then the dryer will shut off before the clothes can dry. This moisture sensor measures low levels of electrical current being passed through the clothes during the cycle. Wet clothes will allow the current to flow easily. As the clothes dry, the current between the two sensors will get weaker, eventually ceasing the cycle when the current indicates the clothes are sufficiently dry.
For the other models with electrical sensors, chances are that those sensors need to be cleaned too. This is especially the case if you use dryer sheets, which can cause build-up on the sensors. Follow this cleaning method for best results…. If your Maytag dryer is still not drying clothes all the way, your sensor likely needs to be replaced. You need to know how to test a Whirlpool dryer moisture sensor. You can perform a sensor test simply by running a wet load through the dryer and checking it frequently to determine exactly when the clothes are dry enough.
If the dryer is still running after the clothes are dry, you should replace the sensor. Replacing a Whirlpool moisture sensor requires a screwdriver, putty knife or similar flat tool, and some patience.
