Elaena had hoped to marry Alyn, but he was lost at sea. She would go on to marry three times, first to Lord Ossifer Plumm who died on their wedding night, then Lord Ronnel Penrose. He sat on the king's small council as master of coin; but it was widely known that Elaena was the one performing the duties, as she was shrewd and intelligent with money.
King Daeron trusted her with many important matters of state, and she grew influential. After the birth of her seventh child, Elaena declared that if seven was sufficient for the gods, it would do for her as well.
Not long after Ronnel's death, Elaena married once more, for love and by her own choosing. While her husband was a cultured man of great wit and learning, Elaena said it was not those traits that had caused her to fall in love with him, but his love of music, and he was known to play the harp for her.
He of course also has an equally barely-concealed desperate need for them to accept him. A combination of contrarianism and wanting to admire military strength seems to be the big causes. It was part of the sea of trade that spanned the world, and the dragon queen has clouded the water. Behind the Black Wall, lords of ancient blood sleep poorly, listening as their kitchen slaves sharpen their long knives. Slaves grow our food, clean our streets, teach our young.
They guard our walls, row our galleys, fight our battles. And now when they look east, they see this young queen shining from afar, this breaker of chains. The Old Blood cannot suffer that. They cannot allow a slave rebellion to go unpunished, full stop. Namely, they got back almost everything without having to do more than hire some sellswords, occasionally strike from the shadows, and then turn up to offer her false hope. Their peace is a lie.
Chataya has closely guarded the knowledge of its existence. To me, that strongly implies that the tunnel was built relatively recently, as in since Chataya started up her brothel. Because really, this is just perfect character-wise. Posts Ask me anything Archive. Anonymous asked: Is it just me or does Victarion seem incredibly bored in his chapters?
Captured anothe ship today. Sacrificed some of the crew. Someone made me feel stupid. As the combination of disease, war and getting executed that played such a big role at the time had a tendency to leave many children sans parents, dealing with orphans from prominent families was an important matter.
Orphans from less prominent families were, naturally, on their own. Of course most such families tended to have their own arrangements for this occurrence, but these not infrequently failed leaving everyone in a bad way. And so, bit by bit, the crown took it over, appointing people to manage the affairs of these unfortunates.
Thus was something that had begun as charity became a form of highway robbery. Now, with this as our model, the tale of Ossifer Plumm comes into sharp relief. The marriage is held, Lord Plumm dies on his wedding night, and suddenly, Elaena Targaryen announces she is pregnant with his child. Now imagine living in a court where things like this happen all the time. This blog is for reblogging purposes only.
The list goes on. As for Rhaenyra being a problematic ruler, boy oh boy. The latter two really paint a picture a proper tyrant with a heavy inclination to abuse the law for her personal gain and pleasures, whether during her time as Princess of Dragonstone or her short tenure as queen. According to Archmaester Gyldayn, it was high treason that Rhaenyra brashly committed by claiming bastards as trueborn heirs to the Iron Throne.
The first is the tiff between her brother Aemond and her three Velaryon sons in which he called them Strongs that escalated to her second son Lucerys using a dagger to slash at Aemond taking out his right eye. Just because Alicent was awful does not make Rhaenyra any less awful.
One wanted a child maimed, another wanted a child tortured. The other example happened after the death of both Laena and Laenor Velaryon when their father Corlys was stricken by fever raising the question about the inheritance of Driftmark.
How very Aerys II of her. Those are, unequivocally, the actions of a tyrant that also show what an awful political actor Rhaenyra was. Aenys was a terrible and ineffective political actor, but he was no tyrant. It just happens that Rhaenyra was both. Her actions during the Dance and her short tenure sitting the Iron Throne only damned her further on both accounts.
If all the roads led to death, why not go down fighting? Corlys Velaryon argued for pardons and hostages from the noble lords, for Alicent and Helaena to be sent to the Faith and Aegon and Aemond to the Wall, for Princess Jaehaera to be his own ward and in time wed Aegon the Younger in a conciliatory move between the two factions. Rhaenyra actively rejected any attempt of peace talks and chose vengeance instead.
She then doubled down on her brutality and went on to turn the smallfolk against her and alienate her own allies out of paranoia. Taxing the people to throw a party is damningly selfish in normal circumstances but doing it in time of war and winter when the people have been suffering for a prolonged period of time as it was for a petty fight over the throne between two spoiled children no less is reprehensible.
The storming of the Dragonpit was a natural response and a testament to the level of misery the Dance inflicted on the people that facing fire-breathing creatures became an acceptable risk.
This was a rejection of the dragons, greens and blacks alike, brought to head by Rhaenyra pushing a populace already pushed to the brink to throw a party. Second was the devastating result of that decision. Through her paranoia and vengeful impulses, Rhaenyra effectively forced her allies to turn on her.
She was turning on her own allies by this point for absolutely no reason. Being born around he was born during a time when the greatest knights in all of Westeros were born, why do we not know what he did? We know Daenerys marriage was very important because it brought Dorne into the realm. Jon Waters was born approximately , to an unmarried, but very much in love couple. Not to mention a pretty infamous couple.
Although Corlys had to claim his son Laenor fathered the bastard Alyn, everyone knew the truth of the matter, because of Laenor's orientation of course.
Alyn went on to prove his worth in the Dance of Dragons along with his brother Addam. He also became a close ally of Princess Aliandra Martell of Dorne. Impressing princesses was apparently easy work for that Dragonseed. Then we have Princess Elaena Targaryen. One of the most interesting Targaryens hands down ever. Elaena married 3 times and had 7 kids. Having the memorable quote and I'm paraphrasing, excuse me, if seven is good enough for the gods, it's good enough for me.
Jon Waters along with his twin sister Jeyne were the first children Elaena had. She went on to marry Ossifer Plumm who died after seeing her naked on their wedding night. It's also rumored she got more beautiful as she got older what a lucky Manwoody! Their "son" from that night would have his own interesting tale, but I digress. She married twice more, first to Ronnel Penrose out of duty.
Ronnel was a front so to say. And finally out of love later in life to Michael Manwoody. Since we now know the people involved in this mystery that is Ser Jon Waters, let's investigate the facts. This Tourney is memorable for the historic union, but it's also notable because Baelor Breakspear unseated Daemon Blackfyre in the final tilt. On a side note, this would've been one of great Tourneys ever be witnessed.
Just an incredible lineup. But here I am rabbit holing again! The point being, Jon was too young for infamy. If he did something cool at the Tourney, we'd know. So that event is out. In the First Blackfyre Rebellion took place. This battle is the backdrop for so much foreshadowing it isn't even funny. Great battles, Daemon v Gwayne. Ravens Teeth trickery. The greatest knights in the realm gathered to King Daemon I Blackfyre to challenge his claim to the thrown occupied by his half brother Daeron II.
Brother v brother! The realm split in two with some of the most legendarily badass stories ever! Yet no mention of our mystery man Ser Jon Waters. This really means nothing though. So much went on during this time, his story could be the Rogue One of how Bloodraven uncovered Daemons plans.
Who know? So jury is still out on this event. In there was a Tourney at Storms End. Again we don't have much info here but since Baelor was in Tourney, I'm guessing he won.
So this event is more than likely out. In we come across my favorite choice of for how Ser Jon Waters became famous. This is the only tidbit of info we get but Lord Alyn had a very good relationship with Princess Aliandra Martell as we recall.
So if I can guess a little bit, it wouldn't surprise me if Jon was a squire for a Martell. He would be out of moms new husbands way but still close enough for his mom state of mind, since House Penrose seat is the Parchments in the Storm Lands.
So in this battle I'm guessing Jon distinguished himself. Since I'm basing this on very weak evidence, I'm probably dead wrong. This raid was lead by Dalton Greyjoy's son Dagon.
We also hear that Dagon has raided from the Arbor to the North! A feat not duplicated to my buddy Emmett Booth's favorite player Euron Greyjoy does it in And we know the remarkable journey Euron has set himself on, so this is probably the most likely time for Ser Jon Water to become famous. Jon's dad Alyn fought the Red Kraken, Dalton. So it would be a just ending for Dagon as well. Fall to another great sea fairing Velaryon. Then you'd have two generations of Velaryons ending Greyjoy raiding.
A more than apt resolution to the mysterious life of Ser Jon. In the Third Blackfyre Rebellion took place. This is also a cool story but it's kind of a black eye for the Crown so I don't think any legends were made during this Rebellion. Or not. Only time will tell! As I begin work on a little series I plan to call Black As Sin, which will deal with the Blackfyres, I find myself considering the man responsible for the whole mess, the appropriately numbered Aegon IV.
Appropriately numbered as he was double the shit Aegon II was.
