When we redid our floor, my husband was adament in making sure it was screwed down properly to eliminate the squeaks, and sure enough, our floor is as quiet as can be. We had a major crack in an outside wall from the day we bought our house. It looked like there had been an earthquake, but there was no sign of damage anywhere so we fixed it as best we could, and ignored it.

When we were renovating, we had to take out our lower cabinets so we could take up the old layers of flooring, and found a small mold issue behind the sink. My husband took out all the sheet rock on the lower portion of that wall including where the crack was. When he got to the crack, he found that the reason we had this crack was because the two sheets hadn't been butted up to each other, nor had they been cut straight so we had a crooked cut with a gap on the stud that caused the crack.

Once he rehung the sheet rock, the crack was gone. Have the floor fixed properly so you don't have these problems in the future. It will be money well spent.
